What it is

A plastic version of the familiar 2020 extrusion format

“2020” refers to the nominal 20 mm by 20 mm cross-section. TekPlastic’s PVC profile uses a slotted modular shape for compact structures where low weight, electrical insulation and easy fabrication matter more than the stiffness of aluminium.

Lightweight and easy to handle

The plastic profile is easier to lift, position and transport than a comparable metal frame, making it useful for prototypes and portable assemblies.

Electrically non-conductive

PVC does not conduct electricity, which can simplify guards, cable supports, electronics test fixtures and low-voltage equipment enclosures.

Simple workshop fabrication

Cut, drill and assemble the profile with common workshop tools. Removable fasteners also make many designs easier to alter or reuse.

No rust and a clean finish

PVC does not rust and the neutral light finish suits displays, indoor frames, covers and equipment that needs a tidy appearance.

Modular 20 mm format

The nominal 20 mm x 20 mm section provides a compact, repeatable building system for small structures and custom project layouts.

Useful for low-load structures

Use it for lightweight frames, dividers, cable management, guards and displays. Aluminium remains the better choice for high loads or high temperatures.

Choosing the right material

PVC extrusion is not a direct structural substitute for aluminium

Use PVC where the assembly is lightweight and the benefits of low mass, insulation and easy cutting are useful. For long unsupported spans, heavy loads, high temperatures or precision machine frames, use a more suitable structural material.

Common applications

  • Electronics benches, test fixtures and cable supports
  • Display frames, signs and temporary exhibition structures
  • Machine guards, light-duty covers and dividers
  • Robot prototypes, sensor mounts and teaching projects
  • Storage organisers and workshop jigs

Frequently asked questions

2020 PVC extrusion questions

What does 2020 extrusion mean?

It describes a profile with a nominal 20 mm x 20 mm cross-section. The slotted shape provides repeatable mounting points around the profile.

Is PVC 2020 extrusion as strong as aluminium?

No. PVC is lighter and less stiff. It is intended for low-load frames and fixtures rather than high-load, high-temperature or precision structural applications.

Can I cut and drill the profile?

Yes. PVC can generally be cut and drilled with common workshop tools. Use appropriate guarding, support the work and confirm the finished dimensions before assembly.

What can I build with it?

Typical uses include displays, light guards, cable supports, electronics fixtures, robot prototypes, dividers, organisers and other compact modular structures.
